How to Use Pin Printing

Setting the Pin Print option and specifying the Pin value varies for different print utilities. The steps to do pin printing using different print utilities are given below.

Printing From Common Print Dialog Box (Document Viewer, Image Viewer, gedit )

1.       Go to Advanced tab and set Pin Printing to On as show in the figure 1

2.       Select the digits of the 4-digit password through the four drop down boxes each containing digits from 0-9. For example, in figure 1 the password is “3004”

3.       Click Print and wait for the message “Print Job completed”

4.       To retrieve the print job follow the instructions mentioned in the section  “Retrieving the secure document at printer:

1.       Select the “print queue” as shown in figure 2 and click on “Properties” button. In the “Properties” wizard, you will see two additional tabs “Paper” and “Device”. Select “Device” tab and scroll down to “Pin Printing” option

2.       Set “Pin Printing” Option to “On”.

3.       Set the PIN value by going to each of the “Digit” options listed below “Pin Printing” option as shown in figure 3.

4.       Select “OK” which will take you back to dialog shown in figure 2 and press “Print”

5.       To retrieve the print job follow the instructions mentioned in the section  “Retrieving the secure document at printer:

 

Printing from hp-print /hp-toolbox

1.       For users printing from hp-toolbox/hp-print this feature is available in “Print Settings->Pin Printing” as shown  in figure 4

2.       Select “On” from the pin printing drop down box and then select the four digit of the password. Move back to “Actions” tab click on “Print”

3.       To retrieve the print job follow the instructions mentioned in the section   “Retrieving the secure document at printer:

Retrieving the secure document at printer:

1.       On the printer’s front panel, scroll down to “Retrieve from device memory”. You will find a folder by the username of the host from where the job was sent. Your file will be stored under this folder.

2.       Click on that file and you will be asked to enter the password. After entering the password, press the “Start” button for printing your document.

Notes:

1.       Turn off pin printing if you do not require it for further printing. Otherwise, later print jobs which do not require pin printing will also require PIN to be entered at the printer.

2.       This feature doesn’t work for applications Image Viewer and Gimp in RHEL 5.
